Content writing is now becoming more and more valuable for online business success! The best way to grab and hold your audience’s attention is to write content that appeals to them and builds trust!
In this post I will teach you the secrets on how to write awesome content for your website. When you adapt the principles described, your traffic will skyrocket and your business success will follow!
How To Write Awesome Content For Your Website!
1. Grab Their Attention
First and foremost, grab your audience’s attention! You do this with your headline. Your headline is the first thing that your audience will see. If it isn’t catchy, funny, controversial or demanding of their attention, then you will miss your opportunity and your business will suffer.
Your title or headline should stop readers in their tracks. Embellish, exaggerate, entice or use emotional words that will grab their attention. If you can’t hook your audience due to a poor headline then it won’t matter if your post is full of life changing information as no-one will read it!
Once you catch your audience’s attention you have to keep reeling them in. The first paragraph must therefore hold their interest. So, begin your article with a bang! Begin with an interesting fact, story, joke, quote, a secret, or a controversial statement that will encourage your visitor to want to know more.
Create even more interest throughout your content by using persuasive, emotional or power words. People connect with their emotions. There are many different emotions that you can target such as; happiness, love, lust, indulgence, excitement, fear, prestige, anxiety, greed and humor. Use emotional words within your text and subheadings that will generate an emotional response.
Human beings are curious beings. As such we easily have our interest piqued with words such as; free, new, magic, imagine, limited, ridiculous, revolutionary, tricks, instantly, sensational and shocking. Using these kinds of words will not only entice your visitors to read your content, but make them more likely to share it as well.
2. Know Your Audience Persona
Your audience are real people with real problems! In order to know how to write awesome content for your website, you need to know your audience. You do this by working out exactly who your audience is.
Know the demographics of your audience. You can find this out through the demographics reports in Google Analytics. The overview gives you a breakdown of your site visitors’ age, gender, interests, and location. Social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter also provide analytics that will give you all sorts of demographic information.
To connect with your audience, you may also need to know their income level, education level, beliefs, hobbies, experience, ethnicity and employment. The more you know about your audience the easier it will be to write your content so that it is relevant to them.
Develop an audience persona based on the information that you collected via your audience demographics. Your audience persona is a fictional character that represents a segment of your niche target audience. Developing a audience persona will help you write better content as you pitch your content to the person you create.
3. Know Their Pain Points
The majority of people search the internet because they are searching for information, answers, entertainment, products and/or services. They are searching for these things because they have needs, wants, desires and problems that they want to address.
When you create content that addresses their needs or solves their problems, you establish yourself as an authority in your industry. But before you can write effective content you need to know exactly what your audience cares about. You need to be aware of their pain points.
Finding out how to write awesome content for your website is by connecting with your audience. There are several ways that you can learn exactly what your audience is thinking and connect with them. You can do this by:
- Paying attention to what they are asking when they email you, contact you, or when they leave comments on your website.
- Asking your customer service team what problems or comments they encounter.
- Find out what they think by asking them directly through surveys, or by running a poll on social media.
- Checking out chat rooms, forums, Quora or other Q&A websites to see what problems people have about your product or products that are similar to yours.
- Analyzing your Google metrics to work out what people are searching for. For example, which web pages do your audience visit, where do they spend the most time. What search phases or keywords do they use to find your website.
Know what keeps your audience awake at night, you can then tailor your content so that it is relevant to them. If you keep this in mind, you will be able to get your audience to like what you write.
When people are interested and like what you write, they are more likely to bookmark your posts and share them on social media. This in turn will help you to increase your following.
4. Know Your Niche
Regardless of what your niche, you need to know your niche and be an expert if you want people to become loyal followers of your website. When you start out in your niche your knowledge may be limited. People won’t convert if they don’t think that you know what you are talking about.
Limited product or service knowledge can be overcome by research. Being genuinely interested in your niche makes learning how to write awesome content for your website easier. When you are passionate about a topic, researching and writing content is much more enjoyable. As you progress with your research your knowledge will also improve.
Really examine your product or service. View it the way your customer would. Does your product offer features that no one else does? Is there something that you do better than everyone else? When you understand your customers problems or frustrations, you can write articles that solve their problems.
Differentiate your product or yourself from your competition. Be different by concentrating on the things that make your product different or more interesting. If you can’t do this, look at what other successful companies are doing to make their products stand out.
For example, soft drink is just soft drink. But the Coca-Cola company differentiates its’ products with the slogans “Make It Yours” and “A Coke for Every Moment”. Nike’s slogan “Just Do It” make their product more memorable. Can you do something similar to differentiate your product?
Your other option is to improve on what your competitor does. For example, if your competitor published an article with 3,000 words, publish an even-better 6,000-word article. Up the ante! Including more details, photos, graphs, explanations, entertainment or make your article more relevant to your audience.
5. New Interesting Topics
In order to write awesome content, you need to know what kinds of topics interest your audience. Pick topics that are hot, current or relevant as these are bound to be foremost in your audience’s minds. If there has been recent media attention on an aspect of your product, then this would be a topic that your audience would be interested in.
When you know how to write awesome content for your website, your traffic will increase. This is because your website will become a trusted resource that your readers can count on. If you create content that is useful to your audience you will come across as an expert. Your audience will love you for it and seek out your advice.
Once you have your topics draft a high-level outline using a bullet point style for each of your listed topics. Then fill in the body of these points using the knowledge you have about that topic. Discuss any personal experience that you have had and that would be of benefit to your audience. Then pique their interest using keywords and power words.
6. Use Keywords To Attract The Correct Audience
Use keywords that your audience uses when searching the internet. Doing this will help your content reach audiences that are interested in what you have to say. It will also improve your search rankings. Keywords and keyword phases can be used as subheadings and within your content.
Keywords are essential if you want your content to be found. You can instantly find keywords by using a keyword tool finder such as Jaaxy. To learn more about Jaaxy and read “How To Find The Best Keywords For A Website”.
Start your search with a keyword that is core to your business. Jaaxy will generate words that people actually use when searching for products, services and information on the internet. Look at the keyword phases that have the largest search volume. This will give you a good idea of what people are interested in. Try it out for yourself in the box below.

7. Helpful Powerful Content
People aren’t interested in your product or service! They are only interested in the things that apply to themselves. For example, people don’t buy vitamins just for the sake of buying vitamins. They buy vitamins because they think that they can benefit from them. People buy vitamins that address problems such as brittle bones, lack of energy, or to rectify a vitamin deficiency.
When focusing on how to write awesome content, place the emphasis on the help that your content provides. Use power words to influence your audience through their emotions. Don’t try to sell your product. Instead offer your audience free advice or support.
Gently mention your product and how it can solve your readers issues. Say things like, “If you want a free website, here’s what you have to do.” Or, “If you want to learn how to increase your SEO, you will benefit from this training.” Or, “If you want to learn how to snowboard, read this article first.”
The majority of people will respond positively if you are generous with your help or advice. Help people to the extent where they feel like they owe you. They will then be more willing to make a purchase.
If your audience feels that your content doesn’t help them, they will leave your site. To avoid this, find out what people are saying about your product or similar products. Visit forums and social media platforms to find out what things they want to know.
Put yourself in their shoes by asking yourself:
- “What does my audience already know about my product?”
- “Which problems are they experiencing?”
- “How can my product solve their problems?”
Once you know which questions people want answers to, focus on delivering relevant, tailored content that addresses these issues. Content that benefits the reader will result in better conversions.
8. Build Trust
When you focus your content on your audience’s needs you build trust. Give away advice freely to further build on that trust. Your advice can position you as an expert in your niche.
Trust is essential for converting your audience into new clients. When you focus on your audiences’ needs and pain points, it’s easy to lead with benefits. This will help you to position your business as providing them with a powerful solution to their problems.
People don’t buy features they buy products or services that will make their lives easier, better or that solve a problem. Focus on the things that they can relate to that benefit themselves, their families or their lives. Concentrate on the things that they are concerned about and can connect with either physically, emotionally, intellectually, or spiritually.
People care about and relate to issues such as; family, friends, saving money, making money, improving their relationships, entertainment, bettering themselves, increasing their skills and protecting the environment.
Your content must concentrate on the benefits that your product features provide. If you lead with the benefits and back these up with the features that your product provides you will be on a winner! Great content that resounds with your audience will lead to conversions and the growth of your business.
9. Writing Style
How you write your content should be dependent on your audience. If you know your audience, you will have an understanding of their expertise in regards to your topic. So, write your content in a tone that appeals, and is interesting to your average reader. Write your content in a way that they will understand and that they feel comfortable with.
It is best to use the language that your audience understands. Don’t dumb down your content unless you are specifically writing for young children. There is nothing more insulting than presenting basic information to a highly knowledgeable audience. If you are writing for managers, professionals or doctors, then treat them as such.
On the other hand, if you have a novice audience, try not to over use technical phases or abbreviations that they may not be familiar with. If you do use technical jargon, you will need to explain them. You need to do this because people quickly lose interest when they don’t fully understand a subject.
If your audience varies dramatically in demographics, as would be the case with a shoe website, then it’s best to keep it simple. Create thorough content that’s clear and easy to read with simple sentence structures. Provide lots of detail so that your reader leaves with an accurate understanding of what you’re about.
When deciding on your writing style, it is best if you can write in the same manner that you speak. Your personality will then come through in your writing. Try to minimize spelling and grammatical errors. Doing this will make your content present in a professional manner. If you can, get someone else to read through your article before publishing it. A second pair of eyes will help to pick up any errors.
10. Be Positive
Positive vibes are contagious! When people give you a complement, you are more inclined to like them than if they say something nasty. Your audience is the same. They like to be seen and approached in a positive way.
Your audience doesn’t want to be criticized. Nor do they want to have their intelligence questioned, be told that they lack will power, or that their looks are below par. Despite their own lack of self-confidence, people want other people to see them as being capable, special or intelligent.
They want to feel good about themselves, they want to believe that they are accomplished and deserve to succeed. They want to be treated as real people who, with the right guidance, are capable of becoming successful. If you can tap into this through your content, you are going to develop a great relationship with your audience.
If your content is upbeat and positive your audience will feel this when they read your posts. They are then more inclined to like your posts and keep on following you. A friendly, happy and positive attitude will help your brand to convert.
Contrary to this, if you are always negative your audience will abandon you and look elsewhere. This doesn’t mean that you can’t have a negative opinion. Your honest opinion is important, and will differentiate your posts from other posts.
Just don’t have a chip on your shoulder or make your audience feel uncomfortable. Doing this will make them leave in droves. You will then struggle to make sales even if you do have the best niche products.
11. Create Urgency
The world we live in is fast paced. People have so much on their minds that they need remainders. That’s why is is important to create urgency on your website. Telling people that your offer is only available for a limited time will help them to take action. If they don’t take action while on your site they may forget all about it later on.
You want your audience to convert into buyers. If they don’t convert you don’t get paid. You can create urgency by telling people that something needs to be done now by using words such as; limited time, today, right now, immediately, imperative, and essential. Incorporate these words if you want people to take action.
Emotions plus urgency lead to conversions. Remind your audience that they have a problem that needs to be solved and that your product can solve their problem. You can conclude your article by stating that if they don’t find a solution today, then they will still face the same problem which is going to impact on their live. If you want, you can add a countdown timer to inspire your audience to act.
12. Clear Call To Action
If your audience is excited about your content, they will want to purchase your product. Don’t leave them to their own devices to try to figure out the next step. Guide them through the process with a call to action (CTA) button.
A call to action button is the most important feature on your website as it allows your visitors to click through and convert. Without it your audience won’t convert into customers, and you won’t make any sales.
Tell your visitors exactly want you want them to do with a clear call to action button, icon, banner or link. A call to action should be distinct and decisive. Use verbs like “get”, “download” or “try” to prompt your audience to click on your button, banner, icon, etc.
There should be no misunderstanding, if you want your visitors to share your post, tell them to “Share This Post”. Incorporate a CTA button that says “Sign Up For The Newsletter” if you want them to sign up for your newsletter. A button that says “Buy Now” could direct them to your shopping cart.
Having a clear call to action that is direct and to the point will dramatically improve conversions. If you place your call to action above the fold (the section that is visible when your website first loads) this will in many cases entice your visitors to convert.

Hi Suzie
Thank you for this great piece of content. I think my favourite point is ” creating urgency” it works all the time. People want to feel special, If you can tell them that, this is a unique opportunity that no one else after 1 hour will not have, They are more likely to purchase it within the time frame you gave them.
And it helps you make some initial sales to help you get started. So, it always brings sales.
Thanks for sharing
Hi, thanks for your comments. Yes I agree with you that creating urgency is an important way to generate sales. However, your content also needs to be helpful and relevant to the needs of the reader.
Excellent tips you’ve put up here, Suzy. I’m a blogger myself and so I write content on a daily basis. The problem is I don’t remember all the best practices every time I write articles on my blog. Your listicle was more than enough to remind me of all of them.
Currently, I’m lacking at points number 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, and 11, probably because I never allotted the time to sharpen them. I’m particularly weak with researching my niche, though I’ve already been in it for 3 years. I just happen to follow and duplicate what others were doing, not knowing exactly where I’m taking my business towards.
Do you have particular advice for me when it comes to learning and researching my niche? Also, how do I know that my writing has improved, besides using my gut feeling and intuition? Is there a systematic way?
Hi thanks for your comments. The only way to get better at writing is to write often. But first you need to identify exactly what your niche is. The only way to find out more about your niche is to research it.
Decide on exactly what it is that you are you selling, and who will buy your product or service. Be as specific as possible, that way you will be able to identify exactly who your audience is and what your audience cares about. You can find this out by looking at what questions they ask on sites such as quora. Then proceed to answer their questions.
You already write everyday, which is great as practice makes perfect. Perhaps you need to structure your posts around the pain points of your audience. You can do this by writing subheadings that use the keywords that your audience use when searching the internet. Then write a few sentences to expand on these issues and how your product can solve their problem.
Hope this helps.
Suzie
Suzie,
The information you provide here is invaluable for content creators and affiliate marketers. I will be personally integrating several of these tips into my own site.
I pay close attention to creating content that should be relevant to my niche and beneficial to my audience, but I don’t seem to be getting as much traffic as I would like.
Hopefully, with your advice, I can tweak a few things and see some improvement.
Thank you for this info,
Gwendolyn J

Grabbing interest, knowing the reader, their problems and building trust. Thank you so much for this article, it was very insightful, interesting and helpful. Thanks for your comments. I find that knowing who the reader is to be one of the most important things when writing any content. because when your know who you are addressing you also know what their pain points might be. Solving the problems that your readers face will lead to trust, build up loyalty and lead to more conversions.
